In framework of Twinning project the workshop on broadband development was held at the premises of GNCC

In framework of Twinning project two informative workshops with the participation of EU experts were held at the premises of the GNCC. The workshop on broadband development is a part of Twinning project aiming at developing regulatory framework and operational capacities of the Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC). At the workshops the Twinning expers presented EU best practice of wireless broadband development and discussed IP based broadband infrastructure and service provision issues.

The Europe 2020 Strategy underlines the importance of broadband deployment as part of the EU’s growth strategy, which serves as a precondition for economic growth of Georgia. In social-economic development strategy of Georgia “Georgia 2020”, approved by the Government of Georgia in 2014, one of the four action lines is “Innovation and technologies”, and the Government commits “to support measures to improve the country’s telecommunications infrastucture to ensure access to internet and information and communications technologies all over the country”.

The EU-funded Twinning project is to support Georgia in development of regulatory framework in line with EU regulatory framework and to ensure the provision of competitive environment for all market players, in the Georgian electronic communications sector.

The Twinning project is implemented in partnership with the Communications Regulatory Authority of the Republic of Lithuania (RRT), Office of Electronic Communications of the Republic of Poland (UKE), German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and Central Project Management Agency (CPMA).
